Does Adsense earning and success depends “only” on CPC (Cost-Per-Click) of Ads? No, other factors such as pageviews, CTR (Click-Through-Rate), RPM (Rate-Per-Mile), Website Niche and Keywords also affect Adsense earning but CPC is the real game-changer. It can make you to earn ten times higher from your website in comparison to a website which is having ten times high web traffic.
So, in this article I am focusing majorly on Adsense CPC optimization. However, you can read more powerful Adsense optimization articles here.

 1. Elimination Low CPC Adsense Advertisements

Google Adsense has both variety of advertisements: both cheap and high paying. Adsense serves these ads by checking your website’s quality. However, you can manually eliminate many Low CPC Adsense Advertisements by using Ad Filter tool available at your Adsense account. Learn here to boost Google Adsense revenue by filtering our low-CPC ads.

2. Implement Section Targeting

Adsense bot serve ads by optimizing your “textual content” and that too in HTML format. The HTML format of your webpage has many coding included too: header and footer coding, plugin scripts, analytic code and other tracking scripts which weakens your webpage’s main content optimization. So Adsense section targeting make bots to optimize only your webpage’s main content by navigating it.
It will not only make bots to serve relevant advertisements but you’ll also start getting high-paying ads for your niche. Learn here to implement Google Adsense Section Targeting.

3. Follow Adense Heatmap

Google Adsense team released Adsnese heatmap which tells best Adsense ads position for a common website template. Below is the same Adsense heatmap. The dark red portions are hottest locations for Adsense ads, then orange area and then light-yellow part. Try to follow it at your best.

4. Choose Ad Sizes Wisely

The most popular Ad sizes among advertisers are 720×90, 300×250 and 160×600. These ad sizes have lots of competition among advertisers so usually these ad sizes have very high CPC.

5. Types of Ads

Many publishers avoid textual ads as multimedia (images/flash) ads looks more appealing to their site or vice verse. But, it is recommended to use both Text & Image-based Ads because it will also increase competition among advertisers, hence high CPC.

6. Make use of custom channels

Custom channels are provided to group some of your ad units. You can create custom channel (for e.g., Tech Pages) and for those ad units, you are going to use on your tech pages, select this custom channel while create ad unit. It will group the ad. So advertisers will have option not only to bid for a single place but also to bid for entire ad channel.
While creating custom channel, at the keyword field, put most expensive keywords of your niche.

7. Take care of ads location

According to Google Adsense policy, you can put up to 3 ad units on a webpage. Usually, the first ad unit have highest CPC than second and then third. So, don’t nail it. Use the most popular ad unit at first location lets say 720×90 or 300×250 ad units. Great locations will also result in more clicks to ads.

8. Increase quality of your website

Add high-quality content to your website. Optimize it for SEO for expensive keywords. Try to get more backlinks from high-authority website. Follow current SEO trend and Google quality standards. These things will increase domain authority, page authority and help you especially to gain high PageRank which put direct effect on CPC of Adsense ads.

9. Get More Quality Traffic

Observe your Adsense report and you’ll get to know which country has high CPC for Adsense. Focus on getting more traffic from those high-CPC countries. You can check ready-made stat of one experienced Adsense publisher here: CPC Ranking By Country.

10. Some Other Tips

  • Don’t block ad categories. I know there are some violent/sensitive category on Adsense than you can block too (such as Black Magic, Gambling, Drugs & Supplements, Dating, etc.) but blocking them will lower down competitions over your ads. Hence, lower CPC.
  • Try to avoid link units. Link units are great, putting them at sidebar or below navigation bar led to very high click-through rate but these ads have very low CPC. So, if it’s not benefitting you to earn more, remove it from your website. It will not only take off your clicks but also lower down the overall CPC.
  • Use DFP. Double-Click For Publishers (DFP) let you to serve both direct advertisements and adsense advertisements on same ad slot, depending on which costs high. So, putting direct advertisement cost slightly high will increase competition on that ad slot hence Adsense, to take over the ad slot will start serving more expensive ads. Do it carefully!
  • Number of Ad Units. If you can, put only two ad slots on a webpage (you can do experiments to check if it’s helping or not). Lowering number of ad units usually results in high CPC.
  • Do experiments. Keep doing experiments with different ad sizes, different ad formats, etc. Who knows! Perhaps you’ll end up in discovering new Adsense optimization trick. ;-)
If you have another great trick that I haven’t shared here, you can put them in comments. I will love to add it in this article by crediting you for the trick :-)
